[Sunday 16 April]
Another fine day also another trip into Ersinghein [?].
It was a very lively trip for me. Going out there were a lot of our aeroplanes up & the shrapnel fired at them dropped all along the road I had to travel. I managed to make it all right & had a good time. incidentally I got my pay.
Coming back the shells were a jolly sight worse. I was right out in the open when they started looking for a battery with high explosvies. I had to get shelter & I had the choice of two farms. I chose one & had hardly taken shelter when a shell lobbed right on the centre of the other farm & only left the walls standing. I reckon I was some lucky. They fired about 150 shells all together & I had to go past before they had stopped as it was getting dark.
