[Saturday 8 April]

Packs up & off again by 9.30. with sore shoulders & feet.

Instead of passing through Bailleul we retraced our steps to Outtersteene [Outersteene], for a distance of about 12 kilos from there we followed the Southern road to Estaires as far as the village of Les-long-Champs [Les Longchamps], where we struck off East along the Armentiers [Armentieres] road which we followed through Steenwark [Steenwerck] to Erquinghem where we bivouacked. We are now but three kilos from Armentiers [Armentieres].

Our march today, though very trying, coming as it did on top of the one of yesterday, was interesting enough in parts. We watched aeroplanes being shelled, saw our own boys getting Australian field artillery ready for action for the first time in history in Europe. We also had some big shells lob pretty near us.

Todays march was about 14 miles
