[Friday 17 March]

Entrained at 12.30 A.M. after a short sleep under the stars near the station. Needless to say we were dumped into the eternal cattle truck, 25 men to each truck. We started at 1.45 A.M & arrived in Alexandria at 10 A.M. The scenery from Moasca [Moascar] to Alex. is very fine, it consists of mile upon mile of irrigated land, as flat as a billiard table & showing alternately green & black according to whether the crop has just been sown or is waiting to be reaped. This together with the island like mounds of palm shrouded villages & the a sprinkling of patient [indecipherable] natives completed a picture that it is worth travelling far to see.

We came on board S.S. Arcadian 11.45 A.M. worked like blazes all the afternoon to get the gear aboard and finally weighed anchor at 5.45 p.m. So goodbye to Egypt till we see her on our homeward voyage.
