[Thursday 22 June]

Pay day today.

We had some shells of big calibre near us this morning and later on a couple of smaller ones sent pieces into the post. One hit just alongside my head & dropped at my feet.

At midnight our batteries bombarded & theirs replied. Again our post was picked out. We all had to crowd down behind our flimsy parapets & sit it out. We had a very rough quarter of an hour. They burst all round us but except for blowing two chaps over with the force of their explosion they did no damage.

Its getting very hot here. We have had about 8 or 9 bombardments in about 20 days.
