[Friday 23 June]
Any amount of strafe today. Some big ones in the morning.
In the afternoon while I was cooking the tea a thunderstorm & a shower of whiz bangs came on us together. I did the ostrich act. There was only a small bench handy so I stuck my head under that & left the rest of me sticking out in the trench, & things were all right until the rain found its way in in a big stream & caught me in the middle of the back. That settled it so I beat it to the nearest dugout.
About midnight came the usual bombardment. I was up for rations & got back to the post in nice time to be in it. Luckily they sent them well to the left & we got very little of it.
Three shellings in the one day is pretty good going. I shall be glad when we get a move away from here.
