A wet day again we sat about the dugout playing cards & reading - the constant state of dampness in which we are living us beginning to tell on me & I am anything but well.

I have discovered that my boots are letting in more water than they keep out. That means constantly wet feet. Our dugout is afflicted with that unpleasant malady known as "soakage" which effectively ensures your blankets being damp at any odd time when you want to turn into them. As for your overcoat etc, the weather itself looks after that, so it is in every way you look at it "My little wet home in the trench. I forgot to say that there is a foot of water right through the trenches so that raised "Duckwalks have to be made to let us get along.
