[Wednesday 8 March]

We have been brigaded today & are now known as the 5th Machine Gun company.

It is almost certain that we will be off to France within a fortnight.

We have marched into the camp previously occupied by the the N.Z. lads who have taken our place in the desert.

Our guns have been changed from today to Vickers light guns which weigh only 28 lbs.

There is an aerodrome about a quarter of a mile away & the planes are manouvering [manoeuvring] over our heads all day.

A fresh water canal runs past the foot of our camping ground it comes from the nile  & runs into the Suez at Ferry Post, about 4 miles away

According to the papers there has been a heat wave during the last few days, so we struck it for our marches
