[Friday 31 March]

Foggy cold early but warm later on.

The Company went to a gas demonstration but as I had a bad foot I stayed at home to mind the billets. There was no parade this afternoon so it meant a holiday all day.

Time was passing very slowly when Capt Wright gave me a trip into Aire [Aire-sur-la-Lys] to get a rubber stamp made. It suited me down to the ground as I went & paid  a visit to Madeline & Marthe. I had a ripping time. In the [indecipherable] Not half. I was learning French & drinking wine till about 7.45. Then I had to reluctantly take my leave & beat it to camp. I arrived home in good time for roll call.

France agrees with me very well, I have never felt better in my life.
