[Monday 6 March]
Am tired before we start, am dreading our march into Ferry Post.
We left Pinchgut at 11.30 A.M.. The day was a regular scorcher & as my boots were new I had a pretty lively time. We eventually came into camp on the Canal at 4 p.m. am dead beat. Our life in Egypt this time has been so far one of fatiguing marches mixed with hard work on the trenches in the desert; most of the boys will be jolly glad to see the last of it.
The boys quickly get their spirits back we have been up to the canteen & bought some fruit etc & you would not recognise in them the string of deadbeats who were cursing their way across the desert two hours ago. They are all lying down singing & getting ready for another march tomorrow. We covered 7 miles today.
