[Wednesday 12 April]
A cold clear night but it started to rain again about 5.30 AM & has been going on & off all day. It is a regular Blonden trick to walk along our trenches the mud is as slippery as beeswax & life would not be worth living here only for our big trench boots.
"Fritz" leaves us alone here except for swinging a machine gun round our parapets on spec at night, you hear the bullets hissing all round your head & its not pleasant.
An unfortunate accident happened yesterday, one of our officers was accidentally shot in the neck by one of the other officers. He died shortly afterwards. His name was Lieut Brewster, I won't mention the name of the chap who shot him.
We have a good comfortable home here we have good sleeping quarters & a fire place for cooking & our sergeant happens to be a good cook.
