[Sunday 12 March]

We had the most curios Church parade that I have ever taken part in. On our right a couple of battalions were having rifle practice & the rattle of musketry at times almost drowned the ministers voice, while between ourselvs & the riflemen was a beautiful mirage which looked like a fine harbour filled with shipping. Only that we knew there was no water there we would never have believed it to be anything but real.

In the afternoon I won  £30 at banker, quite a good haul.

Were addressed by Genl  Birdwood who said we would be leaving for France in a few days time
