[Wednesday 28 June]

A lot of things happened today. We are to get relieved tonight. That is about the best of them.

A very hard bombardment broke out along the front of the brigade on our right. The Germans made a raid on our trenches in the middle of it but were annihilated by the 6th Brigade who raided in their turn & took 21 prisoners.

Our relief didn't turn up till nearly 2A.M. & when they did they had neither rations nor ammunition. I was told off to stay & give them the hang of things. I had to turn out right away & take them up to Bois Grenier for their ammunition etc. by the time we got back it was after 4AM. & still raining, it had been going off & on all night. I had to wait till about 7AM before I could see their officer. After that I beat it to the billets

While the other chaps were going home they were bombarded by shells with weeping  gas in them  & some of the boys have swollen eyes today.
