[Tuesday 13 June]

Wet & miserable again but thank goodness we get relieved today so we are looking forward to a good quiet time at the billet.

While we were coming in the Germans started putting some shrapnel about but we were lucky enough to miss it though it was a bit unpleasant hearing them whiz over our heads & bursting a few hundred yards ahead

We arrived at the billets shortly before 5 pm. I had to have a wash and a shave before I was game to go in & face Ma & Marie Louise & Anne Marie at the farm.

We were all as happy as sandboys & had a rare old sing song, forgetting all about such sordid things as the trenches & the war though all the time through the lulls in the wind the boom of the guns & the roar of the rifles up North was borne fitfully to our ears, but we have learned by now to let the future go hang & be happy while you can.
