[Wednesday 7 June]
Got to bed at about 6 AM after cooking breakfast & got a sleep till about 11.30 Then I had to cook dinner after which I took a trip into Erqu the billets to buy some extra tucker & hear the latest news about the sea fight. I arrived back at about 7 p.m.
It is a big strain in the front trenches with the heavy watches, sometimes a stand to all night, and little sleep together with a good deal of work. I should say that I have averaged little over five hours in every 24 and that has been had in snatches & consequently is very broken.
We have now been in 5 days & have another 5 to do but we have broken the back of it now & it will not be long before we get a spell.
I don't know where Fritz's heavy guns have been for the last couple of days. I think we must have put a good few out of action.
