My dear Mother
I took the patrol to Manly today and we had some lovly sham fights. Last Saturday we went out to a place at the back of French's Forest. We had bivavac, and after dinner we had a game of hare and hounds, we tore up all the paper round our dinners and when the boys had laid out all the paper on the trail they hid behind a rock and hit us with berries but we took cover and got round behind them and soon finished them off. After that we put up a fort of branches,
