Raid 5th Bgde.
[Sunday 25 June]
We left Sydney a year ago today.
As per usual all there is to talk about is shelling. A very severe one at midday, another about 2 p m & then some more about 4 p.m. We are getting quite used to them. I suppose they will switch right on to this post again soon it is nearly our turn.
At midnight our guns opened up again. Guns, Guns, Guns. We are sick of the sound of them. Fritz, on this occasion laid down the law in no uncertain voice. It took him an hour, the air was full of the shrapnel in which he couched his protest to us disturbing his slumbers. The ground fairly trembled. The object of our bombardment was to prepare the way for a raid by the 5th brigade which was a great success. We had only 5 casualties while they lost 2 machine guns, 5 prisoners & a good few killed.
