[Friday 21 April]
Good Friday.
Still at Fort Rompo [?] waiting to be sent on. Things are very slow here with sick cases as the wounded take the preference.
I got away at 3.30 p.m to go to the Casualty clearing station. It is at Baillule [Bailleul] & to get there we passed through Erquinghem, Armentiers [Armentieres] & Nieppe eventually arriving at Baillule [Bailleul] at about 5 p.m.
The towns here are remarkably close to one another within a radius of Baillule [Bailleul] of 10 miles there must be at least a dozen big towns including Armentiers [Armentieres], Nieppe, Erquinghem, Steenwark [Steenwerck], Outterstien [Outtersteene] Ypres, Kemmel [?] & a lot of others that I don't know. in Australia you wouldn't find such a collection in a circle of 50 miles.
