Febry 1773 - Amsterdam

in warm weather as I was assurd extremely offensive I should easily pronounce it the most eligible town I have seen to live in.

Of all the places I have seen Amsterdam is that in which a stranger has the most difficulty in finding out any one whom he may want the streets etc are intolerably long & scarce any one Knows the name of his neighbour so that when you have found the street in which a man lives you have sometimes half a mile to go enquiring every step before you find him.

Tradesmen here are not as in London inclind to oblige any one who comes into their shop if they happen to have the thing askd for at hand it is well they give it if not they will not at all take the trouble to procure it for you nay hardly will they dein to let you know where yourself may meet with it.

A gaping need is here a sign of an apothecaries shop or rather a druggist of which there are many why that is is
