Concious [conscious] of their manyfold sins I suppose every body observd this day with the utmost strictness before the door of a church which we passd by were rangd above 100 Coaches of people of the first fashion, such a sight I have never seen in England besides this no amusement was thought proper. Lyonett to whom I applied refused to shew his Cabinet of Shells so that had it not been for the Charity of the Bentinks we should have been obligd to mortify for the sins of our neighbours.
We arrived at the Country house but both the maid & the Gardener were gone to Church we rangd alone through a large garden situated upon Sand hills near the where which had been thrown up into long mounts in all directions the whole was full planted with forest trees which seemd to grow very ill on account no doubt of the drought & barrenness of the soil, behind the house is a vast Orangerie built in a half circle round a little pond & in the Garden were many [indecipherable] walls where
