Feb. 1773 - The Hague

Kernel had been taken by a hole between the two Lobes almost invisible for which he askd 4 ducats.  Several Tourmalines the largest the size of a moderate Pea none of them very strong from 3 to 6 ducats.  A peice [piece] of Iceland Chrystal [crystal] square 3 inches long & six wide 12 ducats, a nodule of spar quartz as large as large as a mans head in which were small stalactites which seemd to be Agate 20 ducats.

From hence we proceeded to Mr. Eckart who shewd us a model of an Engine for raising water upon the same principles as that used in Lincolnshire improvd only in that the wheel which lifts the water instead of moving upon an inclind plain perpendicular movd upon an inclind plain these Engines he said had been tryd [tried] at large by order of the States & had been found preferable to the Common ones in the proportion  of 2 & a little more to one.

from him we went to Mr. Lyonet in order to see the remainder of his Cabinets which took up the rest of the morning & I confess
