12.
The Hague

From Lyonets we proceeded to Sr [Sir] Jos Yorkes where we dind & after dinner saw a Tourmaline belonging to a Mr  [Mr.] Vandenbrugger who values it at 100 lb sterling it is of this size [see image for drawing] but did not when heated show a virtue in any degree proportionable.

I forgot to mention in the morning that we saw the fish market where were an infinite quantity of very fine fish to be sold much of which was crimpd especially salmon which tho not used in England is I think a good dish.  The market for fresh water fish is just by & here every one stands with a large leaden cistern before him for as the fish may easily be brought to town alive by help of the Canals no one will by [buy] a dead one.  The Gentlemen here generally go to market for their own fish which contributes also to improve it.

Suppd tonight with Count Bentink in Company with Mr Allemand professor of Nat. [Natural] Hist. [History] at Leyden.
