indifferent quality, & far inferior to the choice flocks around Dresden; yet, when shorn, the difference between their fleeces becomes less perceptible.

The Water near Leipsig is peculiarly soft & favorable for cleansing, whilst in the vicinity of Dresden, it is the reverse.

The Bohemian & Hungarian Wools are frequently harsh, and probably, from the same causes.

He considers the extreme fineness of the Silesian Wool, to be in great degree attributable, to the highly artificial manner, in which the Sheep are kept. They never, at any Season, leave the Stables, except for exercise. This mode of treatment is however not only very expensive, but productive also of contagious diseases, which frequently occasion enormous losses.
