common practice both in England, and throughout the Continent. All the Cloth factories, however, at Verviers, have spinning apparatus of their own.

The Woollen Manufacturers of the Netherlands are said to be in a State of great prosperity. The external appearance of the factories, & the general aspect of activity & improvement in their neighbourhood, confirm the Statement.

Their Cloth is of stronger texture than the English, & therefore preferred by the generality of Continental Wearers; Durability being with them the greatest desideratum; whilst in England, on the contrary, lightness & fine surface are sought after.

The wool used in the Netherlands, comes principally from Spain, the highest price given rarely exceeding 50 Sous (2s/1d) pr pound.
