Last year, their fleeces, including lambs, weighed 2300 lbs, about 2 lbs 5 oz each. These Sheep are large & in excellent order. The Butchers prefer Wethers, to those of the common, coarse woolled breed of the Country. Mr Schutze employs in the charge of this flock, four persons - viz. a Superintendent, who also acts as Gamekeeper, a head Shepherd, and two assistants.
The Superintendent has a house & ground for raising Vegetables, as well as allowances of Rye and Wheat.
It is part of his duty, to provide the board & lodging of the other Shepherds who live in his House. He has one twelfth of all profit from the Flock. Should it be necessary to purchase fodder for them, he must pay the same proportion of its cash; but the Stock being proportioned to the extent & productiveness of the Farm, this very rarely occurs.
