There is a lack of everything and in order to achieve as fair a distribution as possible among rich and poor, the government has introduced a ration-card system unlike anything any nation is likely to have ever seen and which borders on communism. There are bread, meat and potato cards, milk cards, butter cards, and possibly cards for other goods and foods we haven’t heard about. Price limits and quantities are stipulated, and if the so-called war profits now flow into the government tills, the socialist ideal is very nearly achieved.
