Surely such a toast does not come from the heart and I&rsquo;m convinced that he&rsquo;ll be one of the first after the war to say to the English: let us be friends again. He also treats his young people very badly. Although he has a bank balance of a few hundred pounds, he has paid his employees only once &pound;10 each since we&rsquo;ve come to Australia. One of them recently asked him for a little financial help and he rudely rejected him, but then offered him a few tins of the government-supplied jam.
