<p>[Page 49]</p><p>Mr Peters, formerly the general manager of the Galle-Face Hotel [Galle Face Hotel] in Colombo, had been one of our company commanders for some months now. He was a cheerful, life-embracing character who got along with everybody because he knew how to handle everybody. While swimming in the ocean he contracted a small wound from a stingray which, through negligence, was allowed to fester and ultimately led to blood poisoning. He ran a fever and the wound eventually became so bad that he couldn&rsquo;t be saved. It&rsquo;s weird how 2 people in their best years and in good health can perish from almost the same way. There must be some miasmas in the air or, worse, in the seawater that lodge in a wound and cause death. One can&rsquo;t help but ask: Who will be next? The funeral was again very solemn, attended by an even bigger crowd than at the last sad occasion, which speaks for the popularity of the deceased.</p><p>I myself feel, undeservedly, very well and,</p>
