<p>[Page 60]</p><p>the fish had completely entered the bay and right away the Australian fisherman was at hand with his boat and big net. After two attempts he finally managed to coax a large quantity into his net and was slowly pulling them ashore. Suddenly, probably alerted by the shallows, the fish seemed to realise what was happening and a great many of them managed to tear the net and regain freedom. However, about one dozen had been pulled ashore and the fisherman was quite happy with the result. The stranded fish jumped 1-2 feet high, trying to regain their natural element. One of the large specimens actually managed to wriggle away but at the last minute the fisherman pounced on him, kneeing on his back, and forced him on land.</p><p>For a few weeks now the beach has been littered with pumice stone, which suggests an underwater earthquake in not too big a distance.
