After the experience with military attaché von Papen, who in incredible carelessness carried his papers on him on his voyage to Germany, which were then seized by the English in Southampton, it is hardly imaginable that B. would have made the same mistake, otherwise we would have to say to our diplomacy: “good riddance”. But presumably B. has sent all ambassadorial and embassy documents via the submarines that were recently in America.</p><p>13/4/17.<br />Today we had news that the United States has indeed declared war on Germany, after a few seamen lost their lives in the sinking of an American steamship. The English nailed Wilson to his erstwhile declaration regarding a casus belli and he could not extricate himself. Will he come to regret his action? But one really has to admire the diplomatic skills of the English, and especially that in trying times they always manage to find such capable men</p>
