It’s sad that such things can occur in this camp, where even those without money could easily earn some. Only drinking and gambling can motivate such thievery, and unfortunately, these vices are becoming more and more prevalent. Whisky finds its way into camp almost daily in large amounts, and people like [Ermakeil?], who is a committee member, but even Berblingen and others who should be old enough to show some restraint, indulge this vice. One could maybe turn a blind eye if they stayed in their cells and wouldn’t show themselves all foggy. Hand in hand with the drinking goes the gambling, real gambling no less, like poker, where again Ermakeil plays a leading role. Berblingen at least stays clear of that. The amounts wagered are said to be as high as £50 on any given evening. It’s a scandal</p>
