There is great uproar and confusion across the country, and the spy hunt is more virulent than ever. They squarely blame all Germans still residing in Australia for the mines. The “Sun”, in its usual incendiary style, has put up a reward of £1000 for the identification of the perpetrators. In the past few days we have spotted various torpedo boats searching the coastline, they probably think that we poor, innocuous prisoners have anything to do with it. The uproar is so big that they held a protest meeting in Sydney, chaired by the notorious Lord Mayor Meagher, which demanded that all Germans in Australia be interrogated.
