But we are hardly as stupid as to turn the few remaining neutral countries against us, since they are the only ones that could still supply us with foreign goods.</p><p>2/2/17.<br />Regrettably, since our attempts to reach a peace agreement with our enemies, our relations with the United States have further deteriorated. Because almost all enemy merchant ships have been equipped with cannons, our government has finally decided to launch an all-out submarine war. They should have done so from day one, because sentimentalities have absolutely no place in war. Presumably we’d be much more advanced by now! It will be hard now to avoid suspension of diplomatic relations, and even war, with the United States. President Wilson has previously declared, probably prompted by the English government, that any sinking of an American ship that cost human lives</p>
