Small states like Denmark may well protest, but they won’t be able to achieve anything.

The release of the 45-year-olds has been stopped altogether for the time being. The disappointment is rampant, and the prospect of an early release seems to have vanished. The English sirs will get their 600 men from Ruhleben, but we will be sitting here till the cows come home! From what I hear, only a handful of gentlemen from Berrima got away who, upon the first news of a possible release, right away drove to L. and paid their own passage. Franzen and the other gentlemen would have probably got away too if they hadn’t hesitated. If those released from here will get any further than America is not certain. But at least they’re free and no longer sitting behind barbed wire. Volgen and a Mr Dorsch, who were released about ½ year ago due to ill health, are still in America and can’t get any further.

5/3/17.
The Maltese who were recently put into quarantine
