<p>[Page 11]</p><p>Our little orchestra, too, should improve now that Dr Müller, who was in Singapore with us, has arrived here and taken over the baton.</p><p>Along with Mr Levystein I have begun to tackle Latin, taught by a former Prussian headmaster, Mr Glöh. From letters I glean that Hellmuth is now being taught Latin in his school, so I hope I can at least learn some basics so that I might be able to help him with his homework.</p><p>On October 15, I read in the newspaper that 600 civilians older than 45 are to be discharged from Ruhleben. The first ray of hope for our release! Let’s pray that we won’t be disappointed. We immediately approached the consul and the visitor about it, but have heard nothing definite so far. The matter will probably take its sweet time and by then I will be almost 45 myself and may hopefully be released as well. What an immense joy it would be to return finally to the homeland and to wife and children. Even if it won’t be in action,</p>
