Oct 8th a Dutch steamer boarded nothing happens

Oct 9th Come up with Royal Mail Steam Packet Boat Homeward bound   a mail is sent off  a Norwegian steamer stopped and boarded

Oct 10th Spanish steamer stopped and boarded  we arrive at Abrohlos [Abrolhas] Rocks, on consulting the atlas we find a speck about 40 miles from the mainland and 350 miles north of Rio de Janerio at anchor also were the H.M.S. Canopus with two prizes a German Tramp the "Santa Catalina" and a Dutch steamer with suspicious cargo  We commence to coal ship during the afternoon the signal man reports smoke issuing from the ventilations of the "Santa Catalina" a party goes on board they find the bunkers well alight all attempts to put it out were of no use, she was eventually scuttled and sank in shallow water in 3 hours. The H.M.S. Bristol arrives and leaves a few hours after for Rio de Janerio.
