Jan 9th Arrive at St Felix and [St] Ambrosio no sign of our quest, the Islands are huge rock not a vestige of herbage we proceed and make search towards the mainland
Jan 12th "Kent" being very short of Coal, Coals at sea Engines kept moving very slowly put coal in at the rate of 70 tons per hour. She finishes at 4.30 pm proceed on our way.
Jan 14th Proceed on our search of the Coast line Northwards. Cruise thro' San Juan Bay, St Nickolas Bay past "Indepencia" past Chincha Islands which you can smell from windward side for a good distance off the odour is very strong these Islands have been the chief sources of 'Goano" It is wonderful the sea bird life in these regions
