May 17th We depart much to our regret we are followed out of the harbour by the niggers in their small flat bottomed boats shouting to us to drop the Farewell shilling in the water as we leave them behind you can hear them saying Goodbye Captain Goodbye Chief etc we are to go back to Abrohlos Rocks

May 30th. Arrived back at Abrohlos. Commenced right away to take in Stores and Coal   the "Vindictive" has been relieved by the "Amethyst" the only ship to go thro' the Dardenelles. Capt Unwin V.C. in Command

June 2nd. Finish Coaling after working all night receive orders to leave with Colliers to sweep for raider. a suspicious has been reported.

June 5th. Put into "Pernambuco" to disembark the chaps that are recalled home which makes us very short handed in the Engine room till their relief, which is somewhere about the Atlantic at the present time, arrives

June 6th. Cruising abreast with "Amethyst" and two Colliers. Receive the sad news of the drowning of Lord Kitchener in the "Hampshire" on his way to Russia
