in abundance in our quarters they did not seem to take any notice of them so I threw them into the sea they were last seen making towards shore, the heat at midday was terrific not a breath of wind we had several cases of sunstroke in a mild form. at night a gentle breeze sprung up from the shore we manage to get a trifle Cool all thro' the night you could hear the Braying of Donkeys on shore which are there in abundance. Fish were caught and seen of many hues and shapes. Some of immense proportions one sunfish about the size of a ships hatch were seen jumping out of the water weighing at least 1½ tons. Turtles and tortoises were also seen swimming round the ship some of the chaps tried to get one with a rifle but failed. Some Gorgeous sunsets were seen here the Islands belong to Ecuador. I believe only one is inhabited and most of the animals and birds were set free by the Government they have multiplied terrifically
