Those Breeders who understand the subject best, consider every thing to depend of purity of blood. A thorough bred race of Merinos, will certainly become fine by attention, but, with a cross bred race, there is no certainty.

When very fine Woolled Sheep are sold, the chances are much against their being pure. No Sheep Proprietor, who knows what he is about will sell his finest thoroughbred Sheep.

It is exceedingly hazardous, for this reason, to buy sheep in Germany.

Mr Swaine considers those Sheep which have woolly faces and legs, to be almost invariably cross bred.

Bare legs and faces, covered with a soft velvety down, are in his opinion, one of the surest marks of high breeding. So long as Wool remains at the present price, he is
