result of which was, that their wool deteriorated exceedingly.

The Wool of those Animals Mr Gadegast showed me, was of very good quality, & the fleece, uniform throughout. One or two individuals were particularly fine.

Altho' the Rams, & the culled Ewes of this flock, are sold at high prices, it is said their progeny do not turn out well, under the management of other persons; from which, my informant, a very intelligent Sheep Owner, inferred that the flock must be off mixed race.

29th December.

Visited the Estate of Mr Von Planitz  at Naundorf near Ochatz. His flock consists of 1200 Sheep, in the care of which five Men are employed. The System of feeding is similar to that at Machon & viz. 1 lb of hay a day to each Sheep, & as much Straw as they choose to eat.

I am more pleased with this flock
