June 15th Leave San Nicholas for Iquique
June 17th Arrive at Iquique parties go on shore to a tennis party also a Golf party the Golf Course is laid out on the sand there is not a blade of grass of any kind ashore nor can they grow any vegetable of any kind, the water supply is water Condensed from sea water.
June 19th Arrive at Majellones [Mejillones] a terminus of a railway joining Bolivia there are several large Nitre and Engineering factories ashore.
June 21st Arrive at Iquique at 6 oclock at 8 oclock we are to have a 6 hours steaming trial starting from a point off Iquique to a point off Arica arrive at Arica at 2.30 making 16 knots the ships bottom is in a very bad state with grass and sea weed. Put into "Arica" the boundary of Peru and Chile this town was taken from the Peruvians some years ago the Chilians have it well
