April 21st & 22nd steaming slowly towards Galapagos having rifle practice each day towing small targets sight Chatham Island at 6.p.m.

April 23rd Arrive at James Island one of the Galapagos group of 49 islands James Island is exactly on the equator.

April 24th   25th Parties allowed on shore each day for recreation minor repairs are carried out in Engine Room. the islands are noted for their peculiar Flora & Fauna and on each Island is a Volcano with its strip of Lava running down to the sea the rest of the Island is covered by an impenetrable scrub   Birds of every hue and size inhabit the Island. human beings bein a rarity on the Island the birds would come right up to you you can catch them very easily many snakes and Iguanas were caught I brought two measuring 12"[inches] and 15" on board alive I let them loose later in my cabin to see if the would exterminate the cockroaches which are
