Dear Judge,
I am indeed sorry to know that Arthur has gone, sorry to have lost him from one midst, deeply sorry for the grief I know it will cause you and his mother; I know that nothing I can say will alleviate it, but I want you to know that my thoughts are with you at this time. I return to my unit today, I have been away [indecipherable] for a few weeks. I shall see Caesar Lucas at the first opportunity & talk with him of you all, as we do pretty often
