My dear father,
We were all interested to learn what a narrow escape you had from being left behind at the last minute. Many a prayer of thanksgiving was offered up for the lack of responsible people at Victoria Barracks. I think I told mother in last letter that our new designation was No. 2. Coy A.C.T.B., but even that is changes now. It appears that there is a surfeit of Australian Cyclists in France, so we all have to transfer either to the Infantry or Machine Guns.
You can imagine what a blow it was is to some of the men, who were beginning to imagine themselves doing all kinds of things – our duties would have been so varied. As for me, II am not at all sorry. Infantry is my job & I will feel much more at home there. Duffy is coming with me if we can get together somewhere in the 5th Bde if possible.
