My dear Mr Justice Ferguson,

Many thanks for writing to me – your letter ultimately reached me here after it had been to Egypt and my battalion in France.

I heard about Arthur's death within a few days of its occurrence – my young brother in his battn. having written to me straight away. I want to offer you and Mrs Ferguson my deepest sympathy, but he died in the best way any of us can die these days.

The same week I had bad news of another friend – Clive Hunter - brother of Arthur's friend. Clive had been with the Light Horse in Gallipoli but was later commissioned
