My dear father,

I have just received your letter dated 27 June. It was a relief to learn that General Ramaciotti was good enough to bring you the news – I feared you had heard by cable.

Thank God they cannot take you instead of us. You have done more by your usefulness in influence, to help the lads over here & to make it easier for them. That we could have done in a lifetime.

Don't lose your smile dad, & tell mother & Dorothy not to worry
