My Dear Judge,

I wish to express my sincere sympathy in your great sorrows & my regret at your loss. Your son was a most gallant & dear fellow. In Scotland I had the opportunity to see his many good qualities & his loveable nature. Although in another Battalion I know he did good work in Gallipoli & recently here under most trying circumstances he carried out his duties in a splendid manner. He is a great loss to his Battalion & I feel that the Country can ill afford to lose
