My dear Judge Ferguson,

I do indeed prise the records you have kindly sent of your Arthur's splendid work. The record could not have been better and, though we feel bitterly that it is closed, More it is complete. You may well be proud of his work and his life.

Some of the Old Boys who have fallen were scarcely known to me personally, but Arthur I had always a strong affection for. He was so bright and honourable and modest. A schoolmaster can learn a good deal from the finer [indecipherable] boys.

My own lad, Goodwin, was at one time quite a chum of his. He is now with the 7th Artillery Brigade in training on Salisbury Plain. He is of course younger and only a Gunner, but I trust he will play his part with the rest.

I am, Dear Judge
Yours very faithfully,
A.H.S. Lucas
