My Dear Conway,

Many thanks for your letter of 8 June which reached me a fortnight ago.

Am still having a fairly peaceful sort of existence here which may now develop into a more active one at any moment. Things are going on very well now on all fronts and another Year maybe too see the German down and out for nothing. I see that our boys have been getting it pretty badly in France, they will find the bosch a much harder neck to crack than the Turk. Guns of all description and bombs are always more plentiful on the Western front than any where else
