The Western Aussies are in great heart as they are so near home, the cripples & sick have greatly improved – only one case to be carried off, a poor fellow who was gased he has now rapid consumption & looks very bad indeed; looks as if he is just hanging out to die at his home.

Tuesday 5th Nov[ember 1918]
The Great Australian Cup Day.  Weather fine & warm sea calm getting bit nearer the Aussie Summer.  Nothing to report so far.  9pm – There is a great thunder storm on, I have been walking round the deck watching the lightning play all round the ship it is a grand sight but very solemn – will turn in now & read.
